YeYe

This Palette Challenge is so good for motivation that I finished another dress. Three dresses in three weeks, not bad!
Let me introduce the new dress, called YeYe because it reminded my boyfriend and I of the song Una chica YeYe from the 60's:

This is Burda dress 108b of the march issue called Dress with knot front. At first, I wasn't sure about this pattern, but I wanted to use a lined fabric I bought during sales. This pattern is perfect for plaid or lines as it highlights the knot.
Even when I was sewing the dress I wasn't convinced. But the moment I tried it on, it changed. The fit is very good, even if the pattern is for tall women (which was solved by cutting the hem some 30 cm shorter). Yes, I am that short!

Some details of the knot.

The pattern is not complicated and the Burda editors were smart enough to make it the illustrated step by step pattern. As my magazines are in spanish, that was helpful!

I used some stripped linen-cotton fabric in light blue and yellow. I didn't line the dress, I am wearing an under-dress on the photos but I might not even need it.

This is not my usual style but I really like the dress. I have been wearing it all week-end and it's easy to wear, light and fun. With a 60's feel, I know I am going to wear this dress a lot this summer, it seems very appropriate for going to the beach or biking to the city center.

I am going to leave with a Chica YeYe stupid dance. Have a good week-end or bridge for the lucky ones (I am one of them)!

  1. Oh, I keep looking at this pattern in my mag, but I am too lazy to trace it out.

However, I have seen some nice versions, which make me think it is worth the effort.

Your version is simply lovely! What a great fabric choice. And the shape really really suits you.

I may have to think again!

    1. Thanks Alice. The good thing about the pattern is that is so fast to make, I think it took me 4 hours to complete the whole dress, and I am counting matching the stripes and cutting the fabric.

    1. Merci.

  4. The dress turned out beautifully, especially the stripe-matching. But I covet those shoes! Where did you find such adorable shoes?

    1. Thanks Jen. It was my first time sewing with stripes and I am quite proud of the result, the lines match almost perfectly. I bought the shoes a couple of years ago when I was living in Paris.

  8. Beautiful! How much fabric did it take, since you shortened it? I'm wondering if I could get away with less because I'm also vertically challenged.

    Thanks

    1. I didn't use a lot of fabric, I would say 1,50 meter x 1,50 and because I had to match the stripes. If you use another kind of fabric, you'll need even less. Good luck!
